Because of his ACC, Brock has a comprehension delay. In my mind, I had envisioned that he would be happy conversing with everyone, and when it was time for him to do his lines, he accidently mess one up, and start crying. I was fully expecting him to come out 2 mins. later in tears.
Instead, after 10 mins, Cinda looked at me and said, “He’s been in there a long time. That’s a good sign.”
25 mins. later, the door finally opens. Out comes Brock with the biggest smile on his face and right behind him is Paul Reiser! I recognized him immediately! We were huge fans of Mad About You. Paul stepped into the room and announced “I love this kid!” I was so happy! He introduced himself to us and told us what a great job Brock had done. He thanked Brock for coming and told him how great he was. I couldn’t believe it! It was like something from a script! Only in my wildest dreams did I ever expect the star & producer of the show to come out and announce to the room full of people what a great job Brock did. Amazing!
We thanked Mr. Reiser, and then quietly & quickly left the building. I avoided making eye contact with any of the other parents in the room. I was too nervous!
Once outside, I asked Cinda, “I’ll take that as a good sign?” She said it was definitely a good sign. The ride home was a blur! We had to leave WB studios in Burbank, and drive across town to Santa Monica for an audition for William, then drove home PCH. The entire time we were on the phone with dad & other family members.
The very next morning, we received a phone call requesting more information on Brock and his Spina Bifida (SB). I emailed a brief summary on Brock and some links to the SB Association website.
Less than 2 hours later, we received another phone call telling us to hire an agent because the studios were sending over an offer! WOW! Was this all really happening? We couldn’t believe it.
The next 2 days, the phone didn’t quit ringing! The production office needed more headshots, a resume, and sent over another 4 pages of a script for Brock to learn for a screen test. On Wednesday, we drove to Simi to have his work permit signed by his school, from there to Van Nuys to file for his work permit, then back to Camarillo to open a trust fund.
Thursday, at the screen test, Brock met the 4 boys who were called back to play “Gabe” (his younger brother on the show). Brock went in first, and then they called each of the other boys in one at a time to read with him. A few hours and 27 times later…. Brock appeared, again with a big smile! He loved it!
Contracts were signed, and we were on our way to our new adventure!

It is so wonderful that you are writing all this down to remember. I am looking forward to watching the show this fall. My daughter has ACC and it is fantastic that it doesn't have to hold a person back! I am so encouraged to hear about how well he seems to do with everything!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to all of you,
Chaney
Thanks Chaney! We are all so excited for this great opportunity that Brock's been given. It is amazing to see so many people accept your child regardless of his "quirks". Blessings to your family too! Thank you for the support!
