Our life with boys can be a little loco (crazy) at times. Yesterday was definitely one of those times - only thing is, this time, it was on purpose! We had the opportunity to audition as a family for an El Pollo Loco commercial. It was SO much fun! In case you've never heard of it, El Pollo Loco (meaning The Crazy Chicken) is a fast food restaurant that serves Mexican style, flame grilled chicken. It's delicious! Our family LOVES it! I know they have restaurants in California, Nevada, and Oregon, but I'm not sure where else.
When we first arrived, we weren't sure if we fit in with the other families auditioning. Three of the families we saw waiting were obviously musically gifted. Between their costumes, and their instruments, we felt a little bit like we had walked into an audition for America's Got Talent. I almost thought about bolting for the door. Then two other people showed up dressed head to toe in cycling gear with bikes in tow. After the Harley Davidson guy showed up, I was seriously reconsidering our choice to stay, but I'm glad we did!
It was quite a long wait, about 2 hours. We normally aren't at auditions very long. Once it was our turn, we walked into the audition room and stood on a rug in front of the camera. After brief introductions, the casting director honed right in on Brock. She had immediately noticed his crutches and began asking him about them. She was very impressed by him. He told her that sometimes he also uses a wheelchair and this peaked her interest even more. She told Brock that she doesn't look for the normal "cookie cutter family". She likes to find people that have something special about them and for her, he was it today. She told him he'd made her day. Then she turned her attention to the other two boys. Wiggly William charmed her when he rolled his eyes, head, and fingers all at the same time while saying the line "If that makes me loco, then I'm loco!" And Mel's energetic answers to her questions made her laugh.
She asked us several questions about availability for a call back and the possibility of bringing Brock's wheelchair should we get one. Call backs are scheduled for Weds & Thurs. We're keeping our fingers crossed that we get one!
