Feeling Hot Hot Hot!

Wow!  So our little Camarillo hit 103 degrees yesterday! Ouch!  Being so close to the beach, we aren't accustom to those temperatures so most of the houses here don't even have air conditioning.  Usually when it gets a little warm, just keeping the windows and blinds closed, and the fans going until late afternoon is enough to keep the house cool.  There's usually a breeze that starts blowing from the ocean around 2 so by then we can open the windows and let the breeze cool things back down, but yesterday was ridiculous!  Not only did we have record temperatures, but there was no breeze!

Having one son home schooling I had to come up with a better solution.  We have to really watch Brock in that kind of heat anyway because there's a possibility of it triggering a seizure.  We live in a townhouse where we aren't allowed to have those window air conditioning units for liability reasons (should it fall).  We own one of those units from our old apartment and it's been sitting covered up on our back patio.  I plugged it in and it still worked so I got a little creative!

Since we can't have it in a window, I though, why not a sliding door?  I pulled our folding table up to the slider outside so they formed an "L".  I put some pots that had plants in them on the far end (so that the weight of the air conditioner wouldn't flip it over).  Then I put the air conditioner on the other end by the slider.  Now, at our apartment, we did a nice job installing it.  We went and bought Plexiglass so the window was still pretty, but here, I only plan on leaving it up for a day or two until it cools off.  Since it's very temporary, I used cardboard boxes and blue painters tape.  It's definitely not going to win any beauty prizes, but it worked!!!!  The downstairs was so cool in fact that we had a family slumber party in the living room.  The kids took the couches and we broke out the camping mattress and slept on the floor.

It will be much more bearable today as things cool down, and hopefully our nice Fall weather we were having will return this weekend, but for now, whatever works!
